BALLET
Joshua St. John is a Toronto-based dance artist, educator, and ACTRA member whose career bridges elite classical training, professional performance, and competitive coaching excellence. Joshua trained in the full-time Professional Ballet Program at Canada’s National Ballet School from Grades 8–12, graduating in 2017. During his training, he performed internationally and worked in repertoire by renowned choreographers including Aszure Barton, John Neumeier, and August Bournonville, establishing a strong classical and contemporary foundation that continues to inform his work today.
Professionally, Joshua has performed with The National Ballet of Canada in multiple seasons of The Nutcracker and collaborated with Red Sky Performance in Jera Wolfe’s Backbone and Adizokan. His versatility extends to theatre and commercial stage productions, as well as film and television appearances in Netflix’s Tiny Pretty Things, Apple TV+’s Schmigadoon!, and Family Channel’s Backstage. In recent years, Joshua has focused on mentorship and competitive coaching. He most recently coached Ballet and Contemporary soloists from the Canadian Performing Arts Academy for Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), guiding dancers in refining technical precision, artistry, and stage presence. He has also led Jazz Technique and Acrobatics workshops across the Greater Toronto Area, helping young artists build strength, control, and confidence across disciplines. As a competitor himself, Joshua earned 1st Overall Senior Classical Ballet and 2nd Overall Senior Contemporary at YAGP Toronto.
Joshua’s teaching philosophy combines classical discipline, athleticism, and expressive storytelling. Drawing from his professional stage, television, and competitive experience, he is committed to fostering resilient, versatile, and artistically driven dancers by empowering students to pursue their craft with both excellence and authenticity.
