Jerome Jean-Gilles is a dancer whose artistry is rooted in rhythm, travel, and a lifelong devotion to movement. Originally from Montreal, Jerome began his formal training in Latin dance in Toronto in 1996, where a deep connection to Latin music and culture set the foundation for his path forward. His passion led him beyond borders, studying in New York, Cuba, and Miami, where he immersed himself in Mambo, Afro-Cuban dance, and Casino Rueda. Along the way, he trained with some of the most influential figures in Latin dance, including Eddie Torres and the Vasquez brothers, absorbing both the technical precision and cultural essence of the form.In 2000, Jerome discovered tap dance—a discipline that profoundly shaped his musicality and footwork. Under the mentorship of Marion Hopkins, Shawn Byfield, and Alana Hock, he developed a refined sense of rhythm, timing, and articulation that continues to inform his movement across all styles.Since 2007, Jerome has traveled annually to Buenos Aires to deepen his study of Argentine Tango. There, he trained extensively with many of the world’s leading tango masters, including Julio Balmaceda & Virginia Vasconi, Pablo Verón, Damián Rosenthal & Vanessa Fautaros, Toto Faraldo, Los Totis, Dana Frigoli, Gabriel Missé, Natalia Hills & Alejandro Aquino, Raoul Bravo, Guillermina Quiroga & Mariano Logiudice, Fabián Salas, Mariana Dragone, Lorena Ermocida, and others. This ongoing immersion has shaped his tango into a dance defined by musical intelligence, clarity, and connection.Jerome is the Co-Owner and Director of City Dance Corps, where he developed the studio’s Salsa syllabus and continues to influence its artistic direction. Known for his smooth, grounded lead and intricate, rhythm-driven footwork, Jerome is both a thoughtful teacher and a highly respected performer. His work has brought him to stages and classrooms around the world, teaching and performing at salsa congresses and international events throughout Canada and the United States, as well as in Peru, Israel, Japan, Britain, China, and beyond.
