5 Ways Dance can transform you
1. Exercise.
We all know that staying active is important for our overall health. But dancing brings so many other forms of joy, you don't even realize you're burning calories and improving your overall physical health all along. You get to strengthen, tone, improve cardiovascular health, all while expressing your artistic side. Multi-tasking at it's best!
3. Build confidence.
Nailing that pirouette, or finding your balance during that final pose, are short term gains that lead to long term success. Achieving something new, no matter how big or small, will boost our confidence in ourselves. "Go me!"
4. Lift your mood.
Physical activity releases endorphins, which are neurochemicals produced by the brain during physical activity. Endorphins have been linked to the reduction of stress, depression and anxiety. So, let's get moving and enjoy the post dance class feel good emotions!
5. Connect with others.
After almost 2 years of lockdowns, physical distancing and pandemic restrictions, connecting with others has taken on a new meaning in many of our lives. Whether you are taking classes from home with our virtual program, or coming in to the studio to dance with us, one thing is undeniable - dance helps us connect with others. The Canadian Mental Health Association has said it perfectly: "Social connection can lower anxiety and depression, help us regulate our emotions, lead to higher self-esteem and empathy, and actually improve our immune systems. By neglecting our need to connect, we put our health at risk."
2. Good for your body and your mind.
We know the physicalbenefitsofdance, but your brain is benefitting too!
Increased coordination (that darn left side!), memorizing sequences (what comes after that spin again?) and practicing different ranges of movement, help develop new neural connections. This is especially true in regions involved in executive function, long-term memory, and spatial recognition. So there you have it,dancemay be more fun than a game of sudoku!
