About Us

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to sign up for classes ahead of time?

We offer two types of classes at City Dance Corps, Open Classes and Registered Workshops. If you are planning to attend a DROP IN CLASS, you do not need to call ahead of time. They run in a drop in style where you can pay as you go, or decide to purchase a card of 5, 10 or monthly unlimited package of classes. Registered workshops include Salsa, Argentine Tango, Special Workshops, Hollywood Dance Series, Tap, Ballet Absolute Beginners, and any other class that runs in a specific time frame. You must call ahead of time or register online to reserve your spot in the class and payment is required in full. There is generally a waiting list for students wishing to take a special workshops, and in this case, payment in full is required ahead of time to guarantee your spot.

What if I never taken a dance class before?

There are many classes for beginners, specifically, our "Absolute Beginners" Series. Any class termed "Absolute Beginner" (AB) is designed for those students who have little, or no training in that specific style of dance. We recommend you start at these levels and progress to higher level classes the more comfortable you become. Classes that do not have a level specification are good for all levels, including beginner dancers.  Please be aware that your instructor reservers the right to refuse your participation in class if they feel the level is too high for you. We want you to be safe and learn in a healthy atmosphere, and sometimes jumping to a level that is too high may result in injury and disruptions for other dancers in class.

Do I need a partner for Salsa, Ballroom, Tango and Hustle classes?

NO way! In fact, the majority of our students attend as singles. Registration for group classes are conducted to ensure a uniform male to female ratio. To guarantee these numbers remain equal, it is very important that you register for your classes in advance because enrollment is set on a first come first serve basis. The class is structured where there are frequent partner rotations as well. Private lessons can be taken one on one with an instructor, or you can attend the lesson with a partner. The prices will vary depending on how many students are in a private or semi-private lesson together.

What is the dress code for classes?

This depends of the type of dance class you are taking. Generally, workout/yoga wear is good for any class. We enforce a strict No outdoor shoe policy to keep our dance floors clean and safe. If its snowing or raining, wet shoes will not be allowed on the dance floor.Salsa class: Because this is a social dance, you can wear anything, from jeans to business wear, to evening wear.Hip Hop/Breakdance: Loose or stretch clothing is best. Jazz: Stretch clothing, no jeans. Ballet classes: Form fitting stretch clothing, hair should be pulled up. Bellydance: Form fitting stretch clothing, hip scarf optional. (We sell hip scarves at a discount) Pilates: Yoga wear.

What type of shoes do I wear for class and where can I get them?

It is important that you come to class prepared with the proper footwear. We enforce a NO OUTDOOR SHOES policy on our dance floors. Salsa, Ballroom, Tango, Hustle class: For ladies, heels with a strap around the ankle are preferred unless you never wear heels. Then a smooth soled shoe for men and women will do. No flip-flop sandals, or thick rubber soled shoes, these shoes can cause injury. Hip Hop/Breakdance: Indoor or clean running shoes/sneakers.Jazz/Ballet/Ballet Boot Camp, Power Barre Classes: Soft jazz slippers, ballet slippers, bare foot, or non slip socks are best. Remember for these classes you must be able to point and flex your feet easily.

How large are the classes and what is the general age range?

At City Dance Corps, quality surpasses quantity. Depending on the workshop, we limit the class size to provide the students in the class with the best instruction possible. Personal attention is guaranteed no matter what the size of the class is. Students range in age from 20 years and older. Our kids classes range in age from 3-17 years old.

How can I pay for my classes?

We accept cash, debit, visa and mastercard. Payment is usually made on the day of your first class unless preregistration is required like special workshops and private lessons. In this case, payment can be made in person ahead of time, or by credit card over the phone or online. Credit card purchases made online are stored in a secure database where not even our staff members can see the information. We do not offer refunds or credits once payment has been made for all classes, workshops, private lessons, kids classes and events.

What if I miss a class?

Drop in classes are either pay as you go or by purchasing a card of 5 or 10 classes, or monthly unlimited package. Cards of 5 classes are valid for 7 weeks and cards of 10 classes are valid for 13 weeks. As long as you use all 5 or 10 classes within the expired time period, than missing a class is not a big deal. All workshops have a package rate offered at a discount for the entire workshop, and also a single class rate. The single class rate option should only be used if you know that you will not be able to attend all classes running in that workshop. We do not offer refunds or credits for any classes missed. If you are enrolled in a Salsa workshop, a private lesson must be taken if you miss 2 or more classes within that session in order to move on to the higher level. We highly recommend you pay the single class rate for any class if you know ahead of time that you will not be able to make every class in the session.

How do private lessons work?

Private lessons can be taken in any style of dance with your instructor of choice. They can be purchased by packages of 3, 5, 10 or single lessons. Semi privates are private lessons booked with 2 or more students. We do our best to accommodate your schedule when booking and lessons can be booked during regular studio hours. Payment is required in full for all private lessons and are subject to 24 hour cancellation fee. A package of 3 private lessons is valid for 3 months, a package of 5 private lessons is valid for 5 months and a package of 10 private lessons is valid for 10 months.
