Meghan Cafferky
Ballet Boot Camp, Hip Hop
Meghan is an independent dancer, choreographer and teacher who has trained in a variety of dance styles including hip hop, contemporary, jazz, ballet and musical theater. Her studies began with the Canadian College of Performing Arts and concluded with York University’s dance program.
Meghan’s performance credits include “The Cavalcade of Lights” at Nathan Phillips Square (2006) and Decoded (co-choreographed by Geordan Coupland, Sarah Yu and Lauren Cook) for the Montreal Fringe Festival at La Chapelle Theatre in June, 2007. Decoded was remounted and performed for Series 8:08, Talent Defined and Women in Dance in 2008. Meghan’s television credits include Much Music’s “Fandemonium” and BPM Television’s “Urban Grooves”. In addition Meghan has danced in several music videos including Protest the Hero’s Palms Read, McFly’s One for the Radio and The Love Willows Falling.
Recently Meghan has had the pleasure of working with award winning director Christopher Mills on the Buck 65’s video Shutterbuggin’ as well as performing with Alias at “The Bazaar” produced by Mariano Abarca.
Meghan’s passion for dance led her to a teaching career that has taken her all over North America, including B.C, North Carolina and Ontario. She currently teaches at Turning Pointe Academy of Dance and City Dance Corps in Toronto.
Meghan is a cofounder of Alias Dance Project with Sarah Yu, Lauren Cook and Geordan Coupland. As the core of Alias, Meghan feels that her studies at York based on the concept of creating new movement by exploring the fusion of two genres inspired her. It is this idea of fusion that forms the basis of the Alias collective; dedicated to creating work through this exploration in order to evolve dance to the next level.
